Pol Bury - Sculptures à Cordes, book+flexidisc,
published as #209 in the Derrière Le Mirroir series by Galerie Maeght, Paris, 1974
These “Stringed Sculptures” were created during the 1970s by Belgian kinetic artist Pol Bury, born 1922. Each instrument is conceived with a specific number of strings (6, 12, 13, 17, 21, 25, 26, 33, 58, 82) and frets made of wooden spheres or sticks. A visually striking work, these sculptures allude to a mathematical-based, Pythagorean tuning, but are actually in free tuning. In the accompanying flexidisc, Bury demonstrates the instruments, describing number of strings and frets, and playing them with sticks. [thanks to Giuseppe for this rarity]
